i am trapped
in my own concept of time
you see
i am of the persuasion
that all articles of note
ought to be dated
as time is our only
point of reference
i also believe time to be
ambiguous
diluted
and entirely relative
to our personal time-frame
this lady, see,
she tells me i am young
however
in relation to the rest of my life
(the part,
of course,
which i have already lived)
in relation to this
i am quite old
in fact,
i am the oldest today
as i have ever been
so that is why we must date things of note
if we do not,
we shall lose time
and, in effect,
lose ourselves
i have ants in my pants, you see
i want to travel and
i only have the now
that lady, she tells me i am young
but i only have this moment
oh but i am old!
displacement has caused
a certain procurement
of rehabilitation
rehydration
and saddeningly
an emaciation
of senses
i walked away from
the center
and into a time warp
because as they all move on in time
i remain daily in this loop
of that woman
telling me how young i am
(and i have a sneaking suspicion
that she is me
in thirty years time)
and its like i'm stuck in a timeless dream
Time has power over me
only 'cuz he knows my full name
and i have no power over him
his name changes so quickly
i can barely blink my eyes
and yet it is a whole new moment
and again
in that moment
i am older than
i was before
and still she says i am young!
i tried to buy a watch today
but i could not find one
appropriate
as a timepiece,
a symbol of my old age.
and this is why
we must date all things
of note.

"oh! but I am old!"
favorite grace-ism to date.
I like this so much!
