1.
"why do you wear such a large-faced watch?"
he asked
"why do you wear
such a watching face?"
i asked
and paused
for effect
both dramatic and comedic
which
by the bye
i believe was lost in translation
"as you may note,
the size of the watch is arbitrary to its purpose;
then again, time itself is arbitrary.
a way to count the countless."
he countered:
"so the better question may be
why do you wear a watch at all,
supposing you tend toward existential apathy."
2.
if it is any consolation
the intention
was curiosity
but then again
when isn't it?
3.
my personhood
could be broken down
elementally
you could say that i am composed
of all things
sad-making and all things quiet
those things exuberant
absurd
emphatically loud
and porous
i have this
undying need
to constantly access
and define
my self
using,
and even going so far as to coin
terms that can articulate
me
in some disturbed attempt
to find
myself
amidst a jumble
of characters and symbols
is this the pinnacle of self-absorbtion?
are all writers self-consumed
borderline
narcissists?
4.
too much time alone
i hear too many sounds
and my watch has become increasingly louder
whilst i've conversations with
the self i yearn to define
and imaginary friends
i've never really met

We are all narcissists, yes, to some extent or another. Also, I love the dialogue nature of this piece. Especially about time. I can picture you saying the words to this man. And him having a baffled face.
